Welcome to LiveKit!

We've been working closely with Mux to ensure a smooth transition between your Mux Real-Time Video integration and LiveKit.

LiveKit is the fastest-growing, open source stack for building realtime video and audio applications. Whether you choose to self-host or run on LiveKit Cloud (our managed service), our team is standing by to support your transition to LiveKit's infrastructure and help you build what's next. Reach us any time in our Slack community, where we're happy to discuss your project's needs in detail.

If you do choose to give LiveKit Cloud a try, we'd like to offer you three months of free bandwidth and transcoding (i.e. the things we charge for). Hopefully this makes your transition to LiveKit even easier.

I look forward to potentially hearing more about what you're building and how we can best contribute toward your success!

Russ, CEO @ LiveKit

FAQ

How easy is it to migrate my current product to LiveKit?

Our docs contain integration guides for many platforms and languages. These resources will have you up-and-running on LiveKit in a few hours or a weekend.

If your application is specifically made for the Web, Mux has built a JavaScript adapter which will help you transition your application to LiveKit in minutes.

Is LiveKit going to cost me more money?

LiveKit will probably cost you less money.

LiveKit Cloud has a different pricing model than other realtime video and audio providers. In practice, this means running on LiveKit is signficantly cheaper for most applications.

Does LiveKit scale?

LiveKit Cloud is a globally-distributed WebRTC edge network. Every user in a room (i.e. Mux “Space”) connects to the geographically-closest LiveKit media server. Their video and audio streams are then dynamically routed around the world over the private internet backbone. A single LiveKit room can scale infinitely (as long as we can find machines to provision), which means you can now build experiences shared by 100 or 100,000 people in realtime!

Should I self-host or use LiveKit Cloud?

For most applications, we recommend you start with LiveKit Cloud and as you hit scale, then decide if you want to self-host.

LiveKit is Open Source (Apache 2.0) and LiveKit Cloud is built on top of our open source project. LiveKit Cloud uses the same SFU (media server), SDKs and APIs, which means you can switch between LiveKit Cloud and self-hosted without changing a single line of application code.

Is LiveKit secure?

You can read more about LiveKit Cloud's security posture here and here. LiveKit Cloud is SOC2 Type II, GDPR, and HIPAA compliant.

Do you offer support plans or professional services?

We offer free support (without SLA) to all self-hosted LiveKit users in our Slack community.

We offer enterprise support plans (with SLAs) for LiveKit Cloud customers. If you're interested in this, drop us a note: [email protected].

While we don't typically offer professional services (we make exceptions for very large-scale use cases), we know some great folks with deep experience building realtime applications using LiveKit. If you'd like us to make an intro, let us know!

Are there companies I've heard of using LiveKit?

Yup! Check out our homepage.
